Week 1 of the Winsford Wednesday Netball League at The Winsford Academy got underway with an excellent evening of competitive and social netball. Teams were eager to begin the new season, with players of all abilities taking to the court and enjoying the opportunity to get back into the game.
The opening fixture saw Throw & Behold face Rule Breakers. Both teams started the season positively, producing an entertaining contest with plenty of good passing and movement. Rule Breakers secured an 18-11 victory after a strong team performance, while Throw & Behold showed plenty of promise and determination throughout the match.
The second game featured Winsford Wasps against Clued Up In Pink. In a well-contested encounter, Clued Up In Pink came away with a 19-13 win. Their consistency in attack proved decisive, but Winsford Wasps continued to battle throughout and demonstrated great teamwork as they looked to build momentum for the weeks ahead.
The Underdogs took on Fast And Furious in the third match of the evening. The Underdogs started their campaign strongly, recording a 19-11 victory. Both teams showed excellent commitment and effort, with plenty of positive play on display from start to finish.
The final game of the night saw Honey Bees face Shots And Giggles. Shots And Giggles produced a confident attacking display to secure a 37-11 win. Honey Bees continued to work hard throughout the contest and showed great resilience, while both teams contributed to an enjoyable match played in excellent spirit.
This week's Most Valued Player award goes to Amy McHugh from Honey Bees. Amy's energy, movement and positive attitude stood out throughout the evening. Her commitment and encouragement of teammates made a significant impact and reflected the welcoming atmosphere that makes the league such an enjoyable competition to be part of.
With the opening round now complete, the season has got off to a fantastic start. Teams are already beginning to settle into their combinations, and there were plenty of encouraging performances across all matches. As the weeks progress, players will continue to develop their skills, build confidence and enjoy regular competitive netball in a friendly environment.
