The much-anticipated Derby Sunday League kicked off this week, with teams from across the division showcasing their skills on the court. The season opener unveiled a thrilling display of netball, setting the bar high for the forthcoming weeks.
In the league, a gallant battle was fought as the Divas In Derby emerged victorious with an impressive 8-5 win against Pass Perfect with the Divas setting the tone for the season.
The one-hit wonders found themselves trailing as the Derby Dreamers dreamt big and achieved even bigger with a triumphant 9-5 victory. The Chatsworth Chicks put up a valiant fight, but unfortunately, it was the Derby Ducklings who walked away with a 10-7 win.
Arguably the most nail-biting match of the evening was between Derwent Dames and Goaldiggers. The Dames secured a narrow 9-8 victory in a game that had everyone involved on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.
The week's standout player was Jo Burch from the Goaldiggers. Despite their loss, Burch’s performance was second to none. Displaying exceptional skill and determination, she was named the most valued player of the week.
As the season unfolds, the leagues teams will undoubtedly continue to dazzle their spectators with high-intensity games and exceptional talent.
