Newport Wednesday You Play Netball League – Week 9 Report

Week 9 of the Newport Wednesday You Play social netball league took place at Burton Borough School, with four matches played throughout the evening. As the season progressed, teams returned to the court ready to compete, develop their teamwork and build on their performances from previous weeks. The evening provided another opportunity for players of different experience levels to enjoy regular netball in a friendly and supportive environment.

The first match saw Irreplaceaballs take on Block It Like It’s Hot in a competitive opening fixture. Both teams worked hard from the start, looking to move the ball through the court and create opportunities in the shooting circle. The match remained competitive, with both sides showing determination in attack and defence. Irreplaceaballs managed to convert their chances and maintain their advantage as the game progressed, while Block It Like It’s Hot continued to challenge and looked for opportunities to close the gap. Irreplaceaballs eventually secured a 13-10 victory, finishing three goals ahead after an evenly contested match.

Next on court were Jump! Jump! and FireBallz. Jump! Jump! made a strong start and built their lead through effective attacking play and consistent scoring. Their players moved the ball well across the court, creating opportunities and making the most of their possession. FireBallz continued to work hard throughout the match, with players looking to organise their play and create chances of their own. Despite their efforts, Jump! Jump! maintained their advantage until the final whistle, securing a 27-2 win.

FireBallz then returned to the court to face Caught Offside in the third match of the evening. Following their earlier fixture, FireBallz looked to put in another determined performance, while Caught Offside aimed to make the most of their opportunities. Both teams worked hard to retain possession and move the ball into attacking positions. The match remained competitive, with each side looking to gain the advantage through their passing and movement. Caught Offside eventually finished ahead, securing a 9-6 victory in a closely fought contest.

The final match saw Court Queens take on Goalden Girls. Both teams worked to establish their attacking play, with players looking to create space and find opportunities to score. Goalden Girls made the most of their chances in the shooting circle and built a lead as the game progressed. Court Queens continued to compete and worked hard across the court, but Goalden Girls maintained their advantage to finish with a 9-3 win, bringing the evening's fixtures to a close.

This week's Most Valued Player was Sarah Middleton from FireBallz. Sarah was recognised for her enthusiasm, movement around the court and positive contribution throughout the evening. Her effort and commitment were appreciated, and she deserves congratulations on receiving this week's award.

With Week 9 complete, attention now turns to Week 10 of the Newport Wednesday league. The teams will have another opportunity to put their skills into practice, improve their teamwork and enjoy further competitive fixtures. As the season continues, every match provides valuable experience and the chance for players to build confidence on court.
