Week 13 of the Ashbourne Wednesday You Play Netball League took place at Ashbourne Leisure Centre, with teams returning to the court for another evening of friendly and competitive social netball. With four games taking place, there was plenty of action throughout the evening, with teams continuing to build confidence and enjoy playing together.
The opening game saw Ball Of Fame take on Nets Get Physical. Both teams started the game well, with plenty of movement around the court and some good passing as they looked to create scoring opportunities. Nets Get Physical managed to maintain their lead and finished the game with a 19-15 win. Ball Of Fame continued to work hard until the final whistle, making it an enjoyable game between two teams who kept the right attitude throughout.
Next up were Pass Me The Wine and Bourne Lucky. This was a very closely matched game, with neither team able to gain a clear advantage. Both sides worked hard in attack and defence, with some good interceptions and passing moves keeping the game interesting. After a competitive game, there was nothing to separate the teams, with the final score finishing 10-10. A draw was a fair result for a game that saw both teams contribute throughout.
The third game of the evening saw Still Playing face Ash & Dash. Ash & Dash made a strong start and were able to build a lead as the game progressed. Still Playing continued to put the pressure on and worked hard to create opportunities, but Ash & Dash were able to maintain their advantage. The final score was 22-11 to Ash & Dash, with both teams showing good effort and commitment throughout the game.
The final match saw Sling It Sisters take on The Ash-tonishers. Sling It Sisters started strongly and were able to establish a lead, while The Ash-tonishers continued to work hard and looked to create chances of their own. The game finished 14-5 to Sling It Sisters, with both teams enjoying another opportunity to get out on court and play together.
Our Most Valued Player of the week was Lynette Golisti from Bourne Lucky. Lynette stood out for her energy, movement around the court and contribution to her team. She worked hard throughout the game and helped keep her team involved from start to finish. Congratulations to Lynette on being named this week's MVP.
The Ashbourne Wednesday league is part of our Back to Netball social leagues, designed for women aged 18+ who want to get back into netball, continue playing in a relaxed environment or simply enjoy being active and meeting new people. The leagues are about playing regularly, improving your skills and enjoying your netball without the pressure that can come with more competitive levels of the game.
We would also like to remind all teams to continue playing in the spirit of the league. Please respect the umpires' decisions during games, support your teammates and opposition, and help maintain the friendly atmosphere that makes the league enjoyable for everyone.
Whether you have played netball for years or are returning to the sport after a break, everyone is encouraged to get involved and enjoy the opportunity to play. The social side of the league is just as important as what happens on court, and we hope teams continue to welcome new players and support each other throughout the season.
Well done to all the teams who took part in Week 13, and we look forward to another evening of netball when Week 14 gets underway.
